Acoustic modems form part of a range of technologies involving Spread Spectrum techniques for reliable through water communications in a wide range of operating conditions. Customers can specify the distance over which communications are required and the throughput. Battery powered stand alone devices for sea bed mounting can be offered.

J & S Marine have been working with leading UK Universities on techniques for underwater communications and navigation using state of the art spread spectrum techniques. This work has led to the ability to offer a range of products which achieve high performance in a wide variety of roles.

Using in service underwater telephones as the basis, J & S Marine has developed a new generation of systems which can make the surface ship platform part of a network enabled system. Benefits include increased range, greater clarity of speech and the ability to send other types of data such as text or images. The enhanced systems maintain their STANAG capability.
